The Australian Lawyers Cricket Council is sending a squad of 33 Australian legal practitioners to the 4th International Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup, to be held at New Delhi, India between 12 – 22 October 2013.  Previous tournaments have been held at Hyderabad, India (2007), England (2009), & Barbados (2011).  Australia won the World Cup at The Oval on 4 August 2009.

The Australian Lawyers Cricket Council grew out of the desire, by a group of like-minded Australian legal practitioners, to promote the rule of law throughout the Commonwealth, by using cricket as an opportunity to meet regularly at different locations and to interact with our legal practitioner friends from elsewhere. The motto of the International Lawyers Cricket World Cup tournament is ‘Cricket for Friendship’.

The response from Australian legal practitioners has been steadily growing and this is the first tournament, to which Australia is sending two teams.

Australia’s squad is made up of practitioners, who are natives of New South Wales, Queensland, Australian Capital Territory, South Australia & Western Australia.  Selection is entirely merit based.  The 1st XI is almost exclusively comprised of current and former State representatives (Sheffield Shield & 2nd XI), one former Australian A player and current or former first grade players.  The 2nd XI team has a less competitive, more social aspect to it.

The greatest concentrations of interest and support for the 2013 touring squad is by barristers and solicitors from New South Wales, barristers and solicitors from Queensland, and Australian expatriate legal practitioners in England.

Australia plans to host the next tournament in January 2016, to which event you are warmly invited to attend.
